Through DIVER magazine I was invited to cover a behind the scenes look at the 2017 Anilao photo shoot-out competition in the beautiful Philippines. The comp was based mainly around "muck diving", which is what this area of the Philippines is generally famous for. This kind of diving essentially involves looking for fun-sized critters clinging to stuff on areas of coral or more often - reasonably featureless dive sites. Muck dive macro & SUPER macro photographers are a breed of their own and have opened my eyes to a fascinating side of diving and photography that I previously knew little about. I have to admit - I totally get it now too. I consider myself really more of a wide angle photographer, however I don't think it will be long before I add a macro lens to my photo kit. The comp was judged by David Doubilet, Jennifer Hayes, Scott "Gutsy" Tuason, Tobias Friedrich, William Tan & Yoshi Hirata. The awards ceremony and after party left us all with sore heads the next day too. Full feature to appear in Diver magazine in 2018. www.anilaoshootout.ph
